Dilute
formulations of Dow Corning water repellents can be easily
applied by dipping, spraying or brushing.
Following
are the most important grades of Dow Corning water repellents,
which are available with us:
Dow
Corning® Z-6689 Water Repellent
Dow
Corning® Z-6689 Water Repellent is a solvent-free silane/siloxane
concentrate, dilutable in organic or silicone solvents to
formulate a water repellent. Upon proper application, the
formulated product will penetrate and provide water repellency
by chemically reacting with the substrate. Treated substrates
are hydrophobic and retain their original appearance. A catalyst
is present, so it can be used on both neutral and alkaline
substrates.
The
active ingredients react with moisture to produce hydroxy
groups. These hydroxy groups will bond with the substrates
and themselves to produce a hydrophobic treatment that inhibits
water absorption into the substrate.
Applications
For use on neutral and alkaline mineral substrates such
as brick, sandstone, concrete and mortar that require water
repellency.
Dow
Corning® 520 Dilutable Water Repellent Emulsion
Dow
Corning® 520 Dilutable Water Repellent Emulsion is a 40 percent
active silane/siloxane emulsion. It can be used at 40 percent
actives or can be diluted in water to formulate a water repellent.
As with any other common water repellent, upon proper application,
the formulated product will penetrate and provide water repellency
by chemically reacting with the substrate. Treated substrates
are hydrophobic and retain their original appearance.
The
active ingredients in Dow Corning 520 Dilutable Water Repellent
Emulsion are small molecules to allow for deep penetration
into the surface. After the emulsion breaks, the active ingredients
react with moisture to produce hydroxy groups. These hydroxy
groups bond with the substrate and each other to produce a
hydrophobic treatment that inhibits water absorption into
the substrate. However, in the emulsion form, surfactants
protect the reactive molecules from the water, providing emulsion
stability.
Applications
For use on mineral substrates such as brick, stone, concrete
and mortar that require water repellency.
Dow
Corning® 772 Water Repellent
Dow
Corning® 772 Water Repellent is a nonflammable, water soluble
sodium methyl siliconate solution designed to impart water
repellency to a wide variety of surfaces. Supplied at a concentration
of 30 percent solids in water, Dow Corning 772 Water Repellent
is usually diluted to a concentration of 3 percent before
being applied. The final concentration depends on the application.
The siliconate reacts with moisture and carbon dioxide in
the air to form an insoluble water-resistant resin within
24 hours.
Applications
- Bricks;
to increase water repellency and reduce water absorption
- Manufactured
and natural stones, such as limestone, sandstone and ceramics;
to reduce efflorescence and improve resistance to effects
of weathering
- Roofing
granules and other products used in contact with asphalt;
to provide stain resistance and to improve adhesion of
granules to asphalt
- High absorptive
mineral aggregates such as Perlite; to reduce water absorption
- Decorative
tile; to seal against moisture
Besides
these, there are many other products available like Pure
Silane for Bridges & Ports, Pure Silane for Stain Resistance,
Wood Water Repellent, Silicone Roof Coating for use on Polyurethane
Foam based Roof, etc.
